Where is the logic?

On Nov. 9, 1999, I read in The Jakarta Post that judges at the West Jakarta District Court sentenced BW and IM to 42 months and 36 months in jail respectively for the premeditated murder of a female high school student. Both defendants were charged with violating Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of nine years in jail.

On Nov. 10, 1999, I read in the Post that the Tangerang District Court sentenced MM to eight years (96 months) in prison for transporting 33 kilograms of marijuana by truck. MM was proven guilty of violating the 1997 Law on Narcotics, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Am I suffering from the scourge of fuzzy logic or am I just too emotionally unintelligent to understand this?
