What's in a color; use it as a natural therapeutic tool

By Tishy Bruce

JAKARTA (JP): Colors have unique qualities which can be used by you, for you.

They can be used in clothes you wear, colors in your environment and in any empowerment or healing situation. When you wake up in the morning and are drawn to a particular color, ask yourself why! Your intuitive powers are telling you something. Follow your intuition.

If you have an important job situation coming up think about the colors you will wear in order to give the best impression. Use your knowledge of color to choose flowers (including flower essences) and crystals.

For example, gorse flower essence is very good for feelings of despair and hopelessness. Gorse is yellow in color which is cheerful and fills you with joy. You simply cannot feel glum in bright yellow. Buy yellow flowers, paint your walls yellow, cheer people up with yellow.

Color is the common factor that crops up again and again in healing situations and in the development of the brain. If you are using any other natural therapeutic tool, such as crystals, colored light bulbs, plant remedies, aurasoma oils, aromatherapy, incense, herbs, herbal teas, always think of the effect of any particular color.

I give below a list which I hope gives you some ideas to work with. It is not exhaustive by any means.

Light blue helps you think clearly. Peaceful. Beware of gray blue. Good for use during exams.

Dark blue; don't put in bedrooms: you'll sleep too long. Calming. Authoritative (although blue-black is not).

Cobalt (glass) blue; self-confidence. Good for helping you feel in command when in scary situations. Soothing.

Pink; love color - apply to heart to help you become more loving and less judgmental. Nobody can get angry with someone wearing pink so wear this to diffuse confrontational situations. Too much pink denotes somebody who needs to be loved rather than one who is genuinely loving.

Red; passion. Energetic color. Good for awareness of your place on earth. Helps you feel powerful. Can be used to activate nerves in paralysis. Good for depression. Use in moderation.

Green; balancing, harmonizing, mid-spectrum color. Healing. Naturalizing. Use anywhere but particularly useful for lungs and heart, all organs. Mixed with blues will also soothe.

Yellow; Bright yellows are stimulating, cheering and joyful. Beware of gray in the yellow. Too much pale yellow makes you think too deeply: becoming over-analytical. If you have a tendency to analyze everything and get too caught up in your own thoughts do not use this color!

Black; Absence of color. Safe. Notice how teenagers wear it during their adolescent years. Protects you from negative feelings sent by others. Good if you are preserving your energy (although green is better). Be aware it can make you feel depressed.

Gray; neutral or depressing color. Too much gray is indicative of depression so this color must be balanced by use of bright colors.

White; can be worn at any time. Purity. Innocence.

Orange; wonderful for creative inspiration. Creative color. Helps you recognize what you get pleasure from. Good for "having a giggle". Marigold orange gives your spleen life and vitality. It is said to be good for rheumatism and arthritis too as it helps mend and rebuild tissues.

Purples; spiritual love. Provides love and strength. Helps alignment of self with God/Cosmos.

Magenta; unconditional love.

Peach; wisdom and spiritual power. Calming without reducing creativity.

All pastel shades are basic colors added with white so that the base color gives off a softer energy.
