West, North Jakarta traffic rerouted for Air Show

JAKARTA (JP): Traffic in West and North Jakarta will be rerouted when the inner ring road opens tomorrow.

The toll roads to be opened are Grogol-Pluit, East Ancol- Jembatan Tiga, the Cengkareng access ramp and Penjaringan junction.

President Soeharto is scheduled to officiate the opening of the roads at 10 a.m., at the entrance of the Tanjung Priok II toll road.

Soeharsono Martakim, the director general of road development at the Ministry of Public Works, explained yesterday the traffic changes on toll roads and on regular roads. Martakim said the traffic changes will be effective until all toll road ramps are completed, but he could not say when.

The changes are part of preparations for the International Air Show, which is scheduled to begin on June 22.

The traffic reroutes were listed by a special team set up before the air show.

On regular roads, traffic changes include routes around Jembatan Tiga and Pluit. Vehicles heading for the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from these areas are to use the old Cengkareng road, which leads to North Jakarta.

Vehicles from Meruya, Daan Mogot and Tangerang towards the airport are to pass the Penjaringan junction.

Other changes will affect vehicles along the Grogol overpass, for vehicles traveling in the direction of Jl. Satria, Jelambar. Part of the traffic will be directed to use the non-toll road.

Meanwhile, some of the vehicles passing the Grogol overpass heading for Tomang will also be directed to the non-toll road.

On toll roads, traffic changes include the site around the Pluit toll road entrance.

Until September, motorists between Tomang and Tanjung Priok are to use the U-turn near the entrance of the Pluit toll road.

The entrance to the Jembatan Tiga I toll will only be used for traffic in the direction of Tanjng Priok and Tomang or Semanggi.

Other changes affect roads around the exit ramp of Tanjung Duren in Grogol. Vehicles traveling from Tomang to Tanjung Duren are to take the left lane and those heading for Pluit must use the right lane.

Traffic will also be rerouted around the Tomang exit ramp in front of the West Jakarta mayoralty office and around the Grogol toll road entrance.

Vehicles from the Jakarta-Cikampek and the Jagorawi turnpikes heading for the Airport, Glodok or Mangga Dua through the Cawang interchange are suggested to use the harbor road in the direction of Tanjung Priok. (anr)
