West Java combats malaria in regencies

BANDUNG: The West Java provincial administration is prioritizing the eradication of malaria in Ciamis, Tasikmalaya, Garut, Cianjur and Sukabumi regencies, provincial secretary Setia Hidayat said on Wednesday.

The number of people with malaria in the five districts has soared these past weeks, Setia said, without giving figures.

Data from the Sukabumi district administration, however, reveals that malaria patients in the district from January to June reached 522, 10 of whom died.

He said intergovernment office meetings on how to eradicate malaria would be held. -- Antara
