Welcome in Indonesia
Bill de Ruiter, it's with pleasure that I read your letter (The Jakarta Post, Feb. 2, 1995). Although I am not in a position to extend an official invitation to you and your friends, be assured that people like you are always welcome in Indonesia. You showed care, understanding and compassion, exactly the traits missing in most of the ex-colonizers.
One day I hope to write about the latest adaptations in our traditions, some very practical but all very funny. We are brother and sister under the skin even though at one time in history we stood on different sides of the front line.
