Weapons seized at airport

TANGERANG (JP): Customs and Excise officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has foiled attempts to smuggle 44 weapons and 108,472 video compact discs (VCDs) into the country over the past couple of months.

Head of Custom and Excise Office Heru Santoso revealed in a media briefing on Saturday that among the 44 weapons seized were replicas of M-16 automatic rifles, Colt pistols, gas gun ammunition and several revolvers.

"We are still probing the cases in coordination with local police. These guns do not have any sufficient documents at all and they entered the country through untraceable addresses," Heru said.

In a related development, Customs and Excise officials arrested on Friday a university student in Bogor, identified as Slamet Bachtiar alias Acun, 28, for trafficking 90 grams of first-grade heroin through the post from Bangkok. (41/edt)
