Water shortage threatens C.Java

SEMARANG: Water reserves have begun to run dry in some villages in the Central Java regency of Boyolali as the dry season arrives, Antara reported.

The news agency said on Saturday that people in the hardest hit districts of Wosonegoro and Kemusu in Boyolali regency were seen queuing for clean water. Rain has not fallen for the past 20 days there.

Several residents said they always found it difficult to obtain clean water during the dry season, and were forced to dig small holes along the river banks to reserve water.

Other districts affected by drought are Juwangi and Musuk. People in Musuk will have to walk eight kilometers to get water if the drought lasts longer. (09)
