Water rate hike set for Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Local drinking water company PDAM Bogor is to hike water rates between 10 percent and 40 percent beginning next month to cope with its chronic losses, its president said on Wednesday.

Ida Farida said the plan was necessary to because PDAM Bogor was about Rp 4.4 billion in the red since the economic crisis hit the country in 1997.

The increase also will be implemented in consumer categories at an average of Rp 1,500, she said.

Ida added that the rate increase also was necessary due to rises in maintenance fees, component prices and administrative fees.

Of the 66,531 PDAM Bogor consumers, 96 percent are categorized as household consumers, Ida said. (21/edt)
