Water level drops at dams
SURABAYA, East Java: The water level has dropped significantly in some multi-purpose reservoirs as droughts are worsening in across the province.
In several major reservoirs, water levels have dropped by an average of 17 centimeters, an agriculture official said.
The areas worst hit include Gresik, Lamongan, Magetan Bojonegoro, Ngawi and Madiun.
Gondang dam at Lamongan, for example, contains only nine million cubic meters of its normal capacity of 38 million cubic meters, putting the 8,800 hectares of land it irrigates in jeopardy, Antara reported the official as saying. (prs)
