Water distribution disrupted

JAKARTA: Certain areas in the city may experience water shortages due to disruptions in water distribution caused by repairs on a major supply pipe.

Repairing the transmission pipe of state-owned water company Perum Jasa Tirta II would subsequently affect the raw water supply to PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja), which decreased from 5,400 liters/second to 3,200 liters/second from Tuesday, Dec. 10, until Friday, Dec. 20.

Among those areas that may experience shortages are: Bandengan, Bukit Duri, Gedong Panjang, Jembatan Lima, Jembatan Tiga, Krendang, Mangga Dua, Manggarai, Menteng Dalam, Muara Baru, Muara Karang, Pangeran Jayakarta, Pluit and Sawah Lio.

Palyja is trying to distribute an adequate supply of clean water to all customers from their Pejompongan 1 and 2 water treatment facilities. However, with a 40 percent reduction in the volume of raw water, certain areas in North, South, West and Central Jakarta may be affected.

Palyja provides a 24-hour technical service hotline at (021) 5798 5555. --JP
