Watchman killed over pair of pants

North Jakarta police are now looking for a man who allegedly stabbed a security guard to death.

Henky Ebo Wahilait Wan, 26, a security guard at the Podomoro housing complex, was allegedly killed yesterday morning by his neighbor, identified only as H.B., who was accused by the victim of stealing his trousers.

After the murder, the suspect, 25, ran away looking for a place to hide, leaving the victim to bleed to death.

Police claim that the identity of the suspect, the victim's neighbor in Sukapura, Cilincing, North Jakarta, is already in their hands.

According to the victim's brother, Helber, 23, Henky reported a pair of his trousers missing three days ago. He was reportedly told that the trousers, which were worth less than Rp 50,000 (US$23.25), had been stolen by the suspect.

After receiving the information yesterday, Henky allegedly went to H.B.'s house nearby, asking him go with him to meet the subdistrict head so they could resolve the theft.

On the way, H.B. is believed to have pulled a sickle from his shirt, stabbed Henky once, then fled the scene. (bsr)
