Watch your wallets, cell phones...

JAKARTA (JP): Those interested in observing what's happening on the streets around Jakarta would be well advised to watch their wallets.

A number of nimble-fingered pickpockets have joined the crowds of students and civilian vigilantes -- and they're having a field day.

At least two cellular phones were spirited away in separate locations around the Proclamation Monument on Jl. Proklamasi in Central Jakarta. One person who lost his phone managed to save his wallet, but another unfortunate soul had both her cell phone and wallet stolen.

One foreign reporter said six or seven of his fellow foreign journalists had also lost their cell phones. (anr)
