Warehouse with 75 tons of rice sealed

JAKARTA: Police had sealed a warehouse in Marunda, North Jakarta, that was being used to stockpile 15,000 sacks of rice weighing a total of 75 tons, City police spokesman Snr.Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam told reporters on Thursday.

The warehouse owner, however, was still at large and the police were only able to arrest a warehouse employee.

Anton also said that during a three day operation against the stockpiling of kerosene, from Jan. 7 to Jan. 9, the police had confiscated 468 tons of the fuel in five locations in Jakarta and Tangerang.

The stockpiling of rice and kerosene has been one of the causes of the commodities' rising prices, while some parts of the city have experienced kerosene shortages. --JP
