Wardiman to open RP painter expo
Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro is scheduled to open an exhibition of Filipino painter, Pacita Abad, at the National Museum, on Jl. Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, today.
The Philippines Embassy said, in a release made available to The Jakarta Post, Pacita Abad, who has lived in the United States and is now living in Indonesia, is known for her "Trapunto" style of painting, a technique which mixes painting with artistic collage composition.
Her latest collection, entitled Wayang, Irian and Sumba is a result of her fascination with the wayang and traditional art forms of Java, Irian and Sumba.
Seventy art works colorfully interpret the traditional Indonesian puppets and primitive figures from the country's various islands.
The three-week exhibition is supported by the Philippines Embassy and the education and culture ministry.(mas)
