Warders quizzed over jailbreak

PADANG, West Sumatra: The authorities have questioned two warders in connection with the escape of two inmates from Maninjau Prison.

Head of the West Sumatra Ministry of Justice office Ali Amran Djanah said the authorities wanted to find out if the warders had colluded with the prisoners.

Ali said the fugitives' whereabouts are still unknown and various law enforcement officers are continuing to search for them.

The fugitives have been named as Siddik, 51, a farmer serving eight years for rape, and Darlius Djoko, 36, a driver who got four years for eloping.

The convicts scaled the penitentiary's 3.5-meter walls after diverting warders' attention. (32/01)
