Wang wins Olympic golf c'ships
JAKARTA (JP): Wang Ter Chiang of China Taipei convincingly
scored five-under par in the final day of the Rp 250 million
(US$28,090) Olympic Golf Championships at the Rancamaya Golf and
Country Club in Bogor Friday. He pocketed the Rp 66 million cash
prize money and received the Bohemian crystal trophy.
Wang carded two birdies in hole 2 and 3 respectively before
producing a total of 12-under par 276. Spectators, standing near
holes 9 and 18, applauded Wang's attractive performance.
Indonesians Maan Nasim and Ilyasak shared the second place
with a total of four-under par 284.
Maan created one-under par 71. He received acknowledgement
from spectators as he managed a successful putt from a two-meter
distance on hole 9.
While Ilyasak, who was second on Thursday's scoreboard,
spoiled his chances of trailing Wang after making two-over par
74.
Malaysian Danny Chia, who jointly led the first day with Wang,
only finished third after producing two-under par 70 for a total
of two-under 286.
Defending champion Stephen Atako Lindskog of Sweden failed to
perform his best during the four-day event as he only finished
four with a total score of one-under par 287.
In the championships, Lindskog carded one-over par 73 on the
first day, one-under par 71 on the second and third rounds and an
even par on the final day.
Other golfers finished over par on the score board.
In the amateur class, Indra Hermawan of Indonesia managed to
retain his leading score to finish first after carding one-over
par 73. Indra produced eight-over par 296.
"This result meets my expectation. The hot sunshine didn't
bother my game. I'm really glad as I could win my first
tournament," he said.
Tough challenger I Ketut Sugiartha, who narrowly trailed Indra
on the third day, spoiled his chance in the final as he created
10-over par 82 to only finish fourth with a total of 24-over par
