Walmudi's relatives seek justice

Yogyakarta: Relatives of Walmudi, also known by the alias Klowor, shot to death during Wednesday's clash between a group of his friends and five members of Yogyakarta's police mobile brigade (Brimob), have demanded justice through legal proceedings.

"I can't accept this -- the man who killed my son must be held responsible," Klowor's father, 62-year-old Sujalmo, told reporters on Friday, after protesting to officials at Yogyakarta's police headquarters.

Klowor and his friend, Dedi Susilo, alias Gundul, were shot by members of intelligence section of the police mobile brigade when a brawl erupted in the Pasar, Kembang prostitution complex on Wednesday.

Gundul was severely wounded after being shot in the cheek. He is currently undergoing surgery to have a bullet removed from behind his nose at Bethesda hospital.

In the face of earlier claims by the police, Sujalmo said that Klowor and his friends were unarmed when the fight with the five policemen took place.

"I have several witnesses willing to give their testimony in court," he said. --JP
