Wage increase for independence

JAKARTA (JP): PT Tensia manufacturing Indonesia, a foreign investment company, has decided to raise the wages of its 350 workers 2.5 to 10 percent next month.

Pangestu Hartono, an executive of the company which deals with the services in the manufacture of cosmetic products, said yesterday that the wage increase will be conducted on a sliding scale basis in which those with the highest level of salaries get the least increase.

"The wage increase was announced at a flag hoisting ceremony at the company's complex on Jl. Raya Jakarta Bogor in East Jakarta on Aug. 17," Pangestu said.

The increase is conducted in conjunction with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence. (hhr)
