W. Kalimantan to install governor
PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: The legislative body has set Jan. 12 for the inauguration of the West Kalimantan Governor for the 1998/2003 period although President Soeharto has not approved any of the top three candidates yet.
Chief of the legislative body, Muchalli Taufiek, told Antara yesterday a rescheduling was unlikely because incumbent Governor Aspar Aswin would have to end his tenure by the date set for the ceremony.
"We won't change the date we set last month, hoping that the one month spell will be enough to wait for the presidential decree on the next governor," he said.
Aswin, who is favored to extend his five-year term, won 35 votes to top the list of gubernatorial candidates in a selection on Dec. 13 last year, followed by Machmud Akil who collected seven votes and L.H. Kadir who earned three.
The ceremony will be held at the newly completed legislative council building on Jl. A. Yani. Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S.M. is scheduled to install the governor. (amd)
