W. Java to host 250cc motorcross meet
JAKARTA (JP): Preparations are underway at the Jatinangor circuit, West Java, for the 12th leg of the world 250cc motorcross championship from Aug. 2 to Aug. 3.
Organizer Helmy Sungkar said Tuesday: "We are still working on the circuit and hopefully it will be ready by August 2. All expenses for the circuit's construction are being borne by the Indonesian Automotive Foundation.
"Since an international championship will be held at the circuit, we want to make the circuit as exclusive as possible."
The world 250cc motorcross championship is an International Motor Federation (FIM) series.
World class riders from 15 countries, including the United States, Italy, England, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, New Zealand, Japan and Australia, will compete in the 12th leg of the series.
Organizers wish to host races for 125cc and 80cc motorcycles during the championship leg.
"We are planning to have both national and foreign racers take part in the two classes. We are seeking permission from both FIM and the Indonesian Motorcycle Federation for the two races," Helmy said.
Foreign competitors are expected to arrive in Indonesia a week before the championship and to get a feel for the circuit. (lnt)
