W. Jakarta ready to fight flood

The West Jakarta authorities have distributed 5,000 sacks of sand to a number of sub-districts prone to flood.

Mayor Sutardjianto has ordered his personnel to begin 24-hour lookout for any floods.

According to Sutardjianto, the sacks of sand, to be used to stop water spreading from a damaged dam, were previously stored at his office and several district administration offices.

According to Antara, the mayor said over the weekend that at least 15 sub-districts under his supervision are still prone to seasonal floods. They include Palmerah, Kedoya, Angke, Kedaung Kali Angke, Cengkareng, Taman Kota and Tamansari.

Head of the local Public Works agency M. Pasaribu said his office has done various things to facilitate the flow of water at several rivers passing through the prone areas. (bsr)
