VP opens Jakarta Fair 2001

JAKARTA (JP): Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri,
accompanied by Governor Sutiyoso, enter the showground of
Jakarta Fair 2001, while a group of traditional Betawi dancers
and Betawi dolls Ondel Ondel welcome the entourage.

Megawati inaugurated the month-long event on Friday in
celebration of the city's 474th anniversary that falls on June
22.

The annual fair, the 34th ever held, is located at the Jakarta
International Trade Fair (JITF) complex in Kemayoran, Central
Jakarta.

The event features not only trade exhibitions but also
cultural exhibitions and arts and sports performances.

Some 1,200 participants, which include local and foreign
companies and agencies, are taking part in the fair.

The organizers have also accommodated some 300 informal and
street vendors in the exhibition complex. (hdn)
