VP celebrates daughter's marriage

JAKARTA: Vice President Hamzah Haz threw a grand wedding reception for his daughter, Mirna Yuminar, on Saturday, attended by thousands of guests.

President Megawati Soekarnoputri, her husband Taufik Kiemas and Cabinet ministers were among attendants of the wedding ball held under tight security at Sasono Langen Budoyo hall in the Taman Mini Indonesia Park compound.

Mirna is married to Muhammad Rizky, the son of a businessman from South Sulawesi. She is the ninth child of Hamzah from his first wife, Asmaniah.

The Vice President has three wives.

The reception hall belongs to the family of former president Soeharto, who bowed to demands for his resignation in May 1998 after 32 years in power.

The hall hosted in 1997 the wedding reception of Soeharto's youngest son Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, who is currently serving a 15-year jail term in connection with the murder of a judge, -- JP
