Voter registration deadline put back

JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) and Central Statistics Agency (BPS) have agreed to push the voter registration deadline back to December.

KPU member Anas Urbaningrum told The Jakarta Post on Thursday that originally the KPU had requested the deadline to be in October, but after both sides compromised, December was seen as still providing enough time for the KPU to hold the elections as scheduled.

"This will give us just enough time, and still allow us to ensure accuracy in counting the voters and ballot papers for the election," he said.

Anas said that the BPS had agreed to submit the necessary demographic data in June of this year, while the provisional list of voters would be completed between October and December.--JP
