JAKARTA: Put the National Awakening Party (PKB) in power and win the world soccer championship!

Noer Mohammad Iskandar, a senior cleric known for his off- color jokes, assured about 15,000 party supporters at a Tuesday campaign he had a foolproof strategy to beat world champion France 10-0.

He said the national soccer team which suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat to South Korea last week, would not even have to take the trouble to practice.

"I would pray for the French footballers' 'things' to get erect from kick-off until the game was over so that they could run only with great difficulty," he said to the laughing audience.

But Iskandar, who runs the Asshiddiqiyah Islamic boarding school in West Jakarta, vowed he would not pray for the French soccer players' legs to break. "It's no good," he said.

The cleric was upbeat PSSI would keep on losing because the country had never been led by ulemas.
