Volunteers help family planning

SEMARANG: Foreign and local volunteers are conducting a community service mission in Semarang to help promote the family planning program in the Central Java capital.

Coordinator of the mission, Hana Dini, told Antara on Thursday that the 17 volunteers from Germany, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia were staying with local residents in Srondol subdistrict during the work camp, which runs between Aug. 12 and Aug. 24.

During the program, the volunteers promote hygiene and provide medical treatment for residents. On Tuesday, they carried out a free medical checkup on elementary school students and helped residents clear domestic garbage.

They also held a discussion to raise the youths' awareness of HIV/AIDS. -- Antara
