Volleyball meet to feature 47 clubs

JAKARTA (JP): A total of 32 men's and 15 women's teams have confirmed their participation in the initial national inter-club volleyball championships to be held from Oct. 14 to Oct. 22.

Organizing committee chairman Doedie Gambiro said on Tuesday that due to the many competitors, the organizers would have to use three stadiums.

The Senayan volleyball hall and the Bulungan indoor stadium have been definitely picked and the third venue will be chosen from the Senayan basketball hall, the Sumantri Brodjonegoro indoor stadium and the Simprug Pertamina indoor stadium.

All participants will play round-robin matches during the preliminary rounds, with the top 10 reaching the second round to vie for places in the final four on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22 at the Senayan indoor stadium.

The winner in both the men's and women's divisions will earn Rp 10 million (US$930) in cash each while the runners-up will receive Rp 7.5 million and the third-place finishers will pocket Rp 5 million. (yan)
