Volleyball clubs set up tournament

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Volleyball Association has
announced that a national club competition will be held between
Oct. 14 and Oct. 22.

Tournament organizing committee chairman Doedie Gambiro told a
press conference on Friday that all registered clubs were welcome
to enter what is hoped will become an annual competition.

Nine men's teams and seven women's teams from Cirebon and
Bandung in West Java and Semarang in Central Java have so far
confirmed their entries.

"We expect to have an entry of about 30 men's teams and 20
women's teams," Doedie said.

Qualifying rounds will take place in Senayan Volleyball Hall
and Bulungan indoor stadium. The semifinals and final will be
held at Senayan Indoor Stadium.

Winning teams will take home Rp 10 million (US$915) while
runners-up will receive Rp 7.5 million.

Doedie said the association also plans to stage an intercity
tournament next year in a bid to groom young local talent. (yan)
