Viral Grocery Shop in Kemayoran Ransacked, Indonesian Army Admits Involvement of Its Member
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad), Colonel Inf Donny Pramono, has provided clarification regarding allegations of involvement by rogue Indonesian Army (TNI AD) personnel in the incident of a grocery shop being ransacked, which went viral on social media.
“We can confirm that an altercation did indeed occur between an Indonesian Army soldier and a civilian at the location,” Donny stated when contacted by Kompas.com via short message on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Donny revealed that the involved Indonesian Army soldier is named Sergeant AW.
“In the incident, the Indonesian Army soldier named Sergeant AW actually sustained injuries from being stabbed by the shop owner,” Donny said.
At present, AW is receiving medical treatment at Hermina Hospital in Kemayoran.
“Nevertheless, the entire incident is currently being handled by the Central Jakarta Police Resort and is being thoroughly investigated by the relevant parties to ensure the facts are fully established,” Donny explained.
He also advised the public not to be easily provoked by video snippets circulating on social media that may not fully depict the events.
“The situation on the ground is now safe and conducive, and we are continuing to coordinate with the police to ensure proper handling,” Donny added.
