Violence mars village election
SUKOHARJO, Central Java: At least 10 residents were injured and three houses damaged following violence in the election of the Grogol village chief in Sukoharjo regency last week.
The violence involved supporters of Raharjo, one of the five candidates, who were dissatisfied after Supriyadi came out the winner during Thursday's election.
On Friday, dozens of Raharjo's supporters rode on motorbikes and in cars and attacked the houses of Supriyadi's supporters.
Security officials immediately imposed a night curfew on the village and guards have been stationed at every crossroad and entrance to the residential area since Friday evening. (har)
