Violations found during campaign

KUTAI KARTANEGARA, East Kalimantan: Less than a week after the campaign for the regental election started in Kutai Kartanegara on March 15, no less than five violations have been reported, a senior official said on Thursday.

Suroto, the chief of Kutai Kartanegara Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu), said that the committee had found that official cars and other government facilities had been used during campaign rallies for a certain candidate. The election in the regency will take place on June 1.

The committee also found that some civil servants had joined the campaign team of a certain candidate, and that was a serious violation of the election law, said Suroto.

Panwaslu will report the violations to KPU in Jakarta for follow up, said Suroto. -- JP
