Villagers say they were shortchanged

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Some 200 residents of Mandai district marched to the local prosecutor's office on Tuesday demanding more compensation for their land acquired for the extension of Hasanuddin International Airport.

The residents said they had learned they had been shortchanged by the administration after finding that official records show the land was bought at Rp 7,000 per square meter while the city administration paid them Rp 4,000 per meter square.

"So, where has our Rp 3,000 per square meter gone?" spokesman Dudding asked.

The protesters demanded that the prosecutor's office investigate the matter. (27/sur)
