Villagers protest election foul play

PATI, Central Java: Hundreds of villagers staged a rally in
front of the local legislative council Friday in protest of
alleged foul play during the recent election of a village chief,
Antara reported.

Two members of the group were received by the head of the
council, Soebowo, who promised to investigate the allegation.

The protesters accused organizers of allowing certain voters
to cast their ballot up to 12 times, and letting people from
outside the village participate in the election of the chief for
Wotan village, Sukolilo district. (har/09)
