Village head gets jail time for scam

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor District Court has sentenced E. Herdian,
51, head of Baranangsiang village, to four months in jail for
issuing a fake land document permitting the sale of a 1,182-
square-meter plot on Jl. Bina Marga.

Presiding judge Martini said in her verdict on Wednesday that
his offense violated Article 266 of the Criminal Code on land
certificate falsification.

The document was issued on June 12, 1997, at the request of
Miftah Yudhi Hermawan, 48, who intended to sell the land to
Achmad Subyo, she said.

Miftah made the request by submitting a number of supporting
papers, including transfer of ownership.

Martini said the land was not in dispute even though the land
legally belonged to Yarlis Bachtiar.

"In court, however, it was uncovered that all the papers given
by Miftah were fake as well," she said.

The defendant will appeal. (24/hhr)
