Viennese Dream Waltz to perform in Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): An autumn ball featuring ladies' orchestra Damenkapelle Wiener Walzertraum (Viennese Dream Waltz) from Vienna, Austria promises to create a strong European autumn atmosphere at the Shangri-La Hotel's autumn-decorated ballroom Friday evening.

A five-course, autumn-scented dinner will precede a waltz concert by the orchestra. Certain wild mushrooms and spices used in the food will bring forth scents of an autumnal forest. Wind and falling leaves will also make the season more felt.

The songs featured in the concert will include Franz Lehar's Gold und Silber, Johann Strauss' famous Trisch-Trasch polka and Emmerich Kalman's Tanzen mcht' ich, a waltz arranged after a theme from the operetta Die Csardasfrstin.

The ball will then open with a dance by 10 pairs of debutantes choreographed by Cici Dumais from the Jakarta Dance Company, during which Johann Strauss' most famous waltz The Blue Danube will be performed. Guests will be invited to join the debutantes on a 255-square-meter dance floor of the hotel's 1,800-square- meter ballroom.

At 10 p.m., dancing pairs may move to the music of the 60s, the foxtrot, samba, tango and cha-cha performed by the Abadi Soesman Band. At 11 p.m., there will be a cabaret show by the Flo Holden Group from Los Angeles.

Asti Kleinsteuber, who organizes the event, told a press conference Monday that tickets cost Rp 350,000 each for a Very VIP seat, Rp 300,000 for a VIP seat and Rp 250,000 for a regular seat. Asti added she expected about 600 people to attend the ball. (arf)
