Victims remember May riots

JAKARTA: Victims of the May 1998 riots will gather at the
Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery in East Jakarta on Monday to
perform an interreligious prayer in observance of the incident.

"The gathering aims at helping the public to recall the
tragedy which claimed thousands of innocent lives as a result of
the repressive regime," said Wisnu of the Volunteers' Team for
Humanity.

The victims will also spread flower petals at several places
such as the Yogya Plaza shopping center in East Jakarta, and the
Slipi Jaya shopping complex in West Jakarta, which were burned
down during the riots.

"We will also stage a rally at the presidential palace to
pressure the government to pay attention to the victims," Wisnu
