Victims' pictures

We would like to thank The Jakarta Post for reporting the
Consortium of Indonesian Migrant Workers Defenders (KOPBUMI)
action on July 2, 1997. But we would like to straighten out the
comments referring to the picture of the victims Sutarmi Samin
and Akhmad Mufti. The report said: "They did not explain how they
got the photographs and there was no way to verify their
originality."

In the demonstration we, in fact, did not have the opportunity
to explain where we obtained the pictures. But the photographs
were definitely authentic. We obtained Sutarmi's picture from the
Singapore Police (Investigation Officer -- Ang Mo Kio Police
Division) while accompanying Sutarmi Samin's family to attend the
court trial at the Subordinate Court in Singapore on June 20,
1997 and June 23, 1997.

The Women's Solidarity (a KOPBUMI member) took Akhmad's
picture when we were with the victim's family in Sakra village,
East Lombok regency, taking his remains to the hospital at
Selong, East Lombok for an autopsy on Jan. 25, 1997.
