Veterinary schools set up board

BOGOR: Five veterinary schools from five universities in Indonesia and the Association of Indonesian Veterinarians' board of executives agreed on Friday to set up an education board to promote first-rate veterinary education in the country.

The agreement was reached in conjunction with the centenary celebration of the Veterinary School of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), during which the schools pledged to promote first-rate veterinary education in Indonesia.

The five veterinary schools were represented by their deans, Fachriyan Hasmi Pasaribu (IPB), Warsito (Gadjah Mada University), Ismudiono (Airlangga University), Amir Hasan Lubis (Syahkuala University) and Mirah Adi (Udayana University). Also present was Prof. Cornelissen from Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

IPB spokesman Agus Lelana said the council would promote veterinary education and, in the long run, organize a standardized national examination program.

Earlier in 2000, during its congress in Surabaya, the Association of Indonesian Veterinarians agreed to have a national curriculum, said Agus. -- JP
