Very odd indeed

I am referring to your article "This ODD world" in your paper of Sept. 14 about a Wings Air flight that landed on the wrong airport in Padang, West Sumatra.

Generally "This ODD world" reports about innocent and entertaining "man-bites-dog"-like incidents all over the world. Well, it is very entertaining indeed to read that this aircraft made a most perfect landing on exactly the wrong airport, and just on schedule at that.

You did not forget to remind us of the recent air disaster in neighboring Medan that killed 150 people. After this you light- heartedly quote the Minangkabau Airport spokesman saying that the accident happened because a passenger's mobile phone apparently disrupted the aircraft's navigational system when it was ready to land.

Very entertaining indeed to learn that a mobile phone could cause such an eerily precise disruption to land an aircraft, just on schedule, on an airport that was closed two months ago. Drop the pilot!

Do we really need more of this tongue-in-cheek-and-nothing-is- wrong rubbish when people's lives are at stake?
