VCD rental firm owners arrested

YOGYAKARTA: Police in Sleman, Yogyakarta, seized 310
pornographic video compact discs and arrested eight owners of VCD
rental firms in a recent crackdown.

Chief of Sleman Police detectives unit, First Lt. Mujiana,
said on Thursday the suspects could be part of a nationwide web
of illegal VCD dealers. He said the suspects admitted during
questioning that two people from Jakarta and Surabaya supplied
them with the VCDs on a regular basis.

"We will send them to court and step up operations to search
for illegal VCDs," Mujiana said.

A VCD is rented for Rp 10,000 (US$1.17) for two days,
according to Mujiana.

He said Sleman was one of the most lucrative markets for
pornographic VCDs and drugs because of the huge population of
university students. (44)
