Valley tribe resettled
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Many people once living in the thick jungles of the Baliem Valley have now been resettled along the new Trans Irian Jaya highway.
Head of the Irian Jaya Public Works Office Ukon Kusnaedi said that this is a positive development step for Irian Jaya because the government intends to establish settlements along the strategic highway linking Wamena with Jayapura.
Ukon said that eventually, transmigrants from outside Irian Jaya would also be settled along the 600 km highway, the Antara news agency reported. (emb)
