* The celebration of Valentine's Day probably dates back to about 270 A.D. Some believe that it was the Christian's church effort to "christianize" the celebration of the pagan Lupercalia festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of fertility as well as Roman founder Remus and Romulus.

* Cupid, the child-like, winged angel associated with the modern Valentine's Day is the son of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. In Greek mythology, Cupid is known as Eros, the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. (Sources: Encyclopeida Britannica, historychannel.com)
