JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Grand Master Utut Adianto will compete in the Neftjugansk invitational chess tournament in Siberia, Russia, next week.

Antara reported that 10 chess players from Russia, Moldova, Estonia, Ukraine, China, Brazil and Indonesia would participate in the category 14 tournament. They all have an average elo rating of 2580. Utut's elo rating is 2583.

The Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi) official in charge of athletes development, Eka Putra Wirya, said half of the participants were Super Grand Masters, including 1980 junior world champion GM Sergei Dolmatov of Russia, whose elo rating is 2608.

The 1999 junior world champion Alexander Galkim of Russia, whose elo rating is 2587, will also participate in the tournament.

Eka said the invitation from Siberia shows that Utut is considered a good player even though his rating is below 2600. (yan)
