Using mobile phones expensive

An article that appeared in Kompas, on Oct. 14, 2001 titled "Using mobile phone with prepaid card is expensive" interests me a lot. It is hoped that after reading the article users of mobile phones and would-be buyers of mobile phones realize that using mobile phones is expensive.

The problem is everybody feels that they should have a mobile phone, as using a mobile phone has become trendy. Whether they need one or not, whether they can afford one or not, they must have a mobile phone. They do not fully realize how expensive the charges are -- not to mention the roaming charge of 30 seconds.

A roaming charge requires the users who receive calls to pay a certain amount. A minimum charge of 30 seconds means a 30 second charge is applied although users only speak for two seconds.

It is a good thing that Kompas published this article, as the media should educate their readers.
