Use of unleaded fuel

It is really good news to hear about the proposed and planned introduction of unleaded fuel. I also guess that this will be a much-discussed matter soon. My personal opinion is that there are three matters that should be well-considered when implementing this positive project. First, the government should establish clear regulations concerning the phasing out of leaded fuel. For example, they should make it mandatory for carmakers to install the correct equipment for use of unleaded fuel by a certain date.

Second, I think, from economical point of view, that leaded fuel should not be replaced completely, so that older cars can still be used. As we all know, the production of new cars also consumes a great amount of energy. And third, referring to the statement from Pertamina's President, Faisal Abda'oe I rather think that, as it is done in most European countries, the price for the existing leaded fuel should be raised slightly, so that the price for unleaded fuel can be significantly lowered. Consequently, the current fuel pays for the investments needed to produce the new fuel. This also means that everybody funds the new fuel equally, thus providing a great incentive for everybody to invest into the slightly higher cost for catalytic equipment that is required to run a car on unleaded fuel, leading this project toward a fast, widespread acceptance and realization.
