The government has expressed guarded optimism that United States investment in the country will not be affected by a delay of US President Barack Obama's visit to Indonesia.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa told Antara on Friday American private companies had so far shown commitment to investing in Indonesia.
“We cooperate with the US, which is represented by OPIC. Of course the OPIC deal proves that the US private sector is serious in investing in Indonesia,” Hatta said, referring to the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
Indonesia and the US expect to further discuss cooperation plan in investment sector during the visit of Obama, which has been moved back to June.
Hatta said US private sector would remain interested investing in Indonesia as the two countries’ products did not compete with each other.
“We produce different goods, therefore there is no competition. We will benefit a lot from the cooperation,” Hatta said.
