U.S. embassy explains

We regret Mr. Josef Gunawan's unhappiness over denial of visa applications by his nephews, who apparently misunderstood the explanation of the decision. His July 27 letter U.S. Embassy's cowboy tactics contains several factual errors, which we want to correct.

Approximately 60 percent to 70 percent of visa applicants are successful, including people of all ages. The information that the visa application fee is non-refundable is posted prominently for all applicants to see. All applicants who do not receive visas are given a written explanation in English and Indonesian. In general, U.S. immigration law requires applicants for temporary visas to present credible evidence of compelling ties to their home country.

If Mr. Gunawan would like to discuss U.S. visa requirements, we would be glad to meet with him.
