U.S. donates $9.3m to police

JAKARTA: The United States has allocated US$9.3 million to assist the National Police's reform program, the U.S. Embassy said.

An agreement authorizing the donation was signed by Ambassador Ralph L. Boyce and National Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar on Wednesday.

"It is an honor to participate in a signing ceremony to provide police with an additional $9.3 million to support Phase IV of our continuing assistance to the Indonesian police," Boyce said.

During the past four years, the U.S. government has donated more than $36 million to the government of Indonesia to help the police's transition from a military to a civilian law enforcement agency. -- JP
