U.S. dollar lower in European trading
LONDON (UPI): The dollar was lower in European trading yesterday, moving in narrow ranges ahead of the release of U.S. producer price data later in the day.
The German mark was quoted at 3.4245 French francs, up from against 3.4230 at Wednesday's close.
Sterling was stronger against the dollar at US$1.5830, up from $1.5803 at the previous finish, but weakened against the strengthening mark, trading down almost tenth of a pfennig at 2.4362 marks.
In Frankfurt, the dollar opened at 1.5375 German marks, down from the previous close at 1.5423.
In Zurich, the dollar opened at 1.2833 Swiss francs, down from the previous close at 1.2875.
In Paris, the dollar opened at 5.2670 French francs, down from 5.2785 at the previous close.
In Tokyo, the dollar closed at 99.88 Japanese yen, down from 100.15 at the previous close.
In Singapore, the dollar closed at S$1.4810, down from S$1.4827 at the previous close.
Financial markets in Hong Kong were closed for a public holiday.
Gold opened at $388.50 an ounce in Zurich, up from the previous close at $388.30, while in London it started trading at $388.75, up from the previous close at 388.00.
Silver opened at $5.50 in Zurich, down from the previous close at $5.52, while in London it opened at $5.50, down from the previous close at $5.51.
