Uranium studies in W. Kalimantan

PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Officials from the National Atomic Energy Agency (Batan) claim that the province has huge potential for developing a uranium mine.

Batan chief Iyos R Subki told reporters that a study conducted in 1980 revealed that there is 10,000 tons of Uranium buried in Sintang regency, ideal for the development of atomic energy.

"A study on the safety of the (possible) exploration regarding radiation at the site is being conducted," Iyos said, as quoted by Antara on Saturday.

Iyos added that the exploration would require millions of U.S. dollars. A study of possible markets was also being conducted, he said.(08)
